HEALTH INFO
THE PUPPY MUST BE 8 - 10 WEEKS OLD BEFORE LEAVING FOR THEIR NEW HOME. ALL MY PUPS AND ADULTS ARE ON A DE-WORMING SCHEDULE BEGINNING AT 4 WEEKS OF AGE. PLEASE ASK YOUR VET FOR ADVICE ON FUTURE WORMING AND SHOOTS NEEDED.
DESEXING:
YOUR POMERANIAN PUPPY SHOULD BE DESEXED AT APPROXIMATELY 6 MONTHS OF AGE. AT THE SAME TIME, I ALSO RECOMMEND YOU ASK YOUR VETERINARIAN TO REMOVE ANY RETAINED BABY TEETH.
HYPOGLYCEMIA
Hypoglycemia or low blood sugar is a health problem that affects some puppies between 5 and 16 weeks of age and all Pom owners must be on the lookout for it. Hypoglycemia is recognizable by a healthy puppy suddenly becoming weak, listless, unaware of its surroundings, even unable to walk or stand.
Advance stages include seizures before lapsing into a coma, which is followed by death. Some breeders let an ill pup lick Nutra-Cal off your fingers. Please do not hesitate on taking your PUP to the vet if you notice a severe case of Hypoglycemia.
CARE OF THE POMERANIAN
The Pomeranians are noted for their abundant coat, they are generally very easy to maintain in beautiful condition. Taking just a few minutes to brush out any shedding coat a couple of times a week avoids matting. keeping their nails trimmed is the only other requirement besides infrequent bathing. Maintain good eating habits for your Pom. Establish them in a good quality dry kibble or natural diet. Any changes to he's diet should be made gradually over a period of time. FRESH water must be available at all times. Your local Pomeranian Club will be able to help if you choose to exhibit your Pom in show presentation. Arrange to have regular professional veterinarian teeth cleaning. Your veterinarian can also show you how to brush your Pom's teeth.
LEAD TRAINING YOUR POMERANIAN PUPPY
The Pomeranian is very intelligent and very easy to train, he is eager to please his owner. Pomeranians also, excel at obedience. I would start leading training your puppy at 10 1/2 weeks of age. (Unless you purchase a show puppy, I start lead training a show puppy at 6 weeks of age) Start using a very small collar without the lead attached and coax the puppy to follow you with only the collar, then attach the lead. I don't recommend collars on Pomeranians at all times. These can cause problems in their dense coat.
NAIL CLIPPING
Nail and hair trimming is important. Long nails are actually painful for the dog to walk on. Many people are hesitant to trim their dogs nails as they are afraid they will hurt them or cut to far back and cause them to bleed. You want to trim where the curve starts. If the nails are white or light color, you may even be able to see when the quick starts. It's the small pink area inside the nail. The best time to clip is right after a bath, as the nails are softer. If you go back to far, and cut the quick, don't panic! A bit of septic powder put on the tip will stop the bleeding. To trim the feet, you want to trim the excessive hair around and between the the pads of the feet. After done with pads, you want to trim the hair at the tip of the foot. Cut the hair straight across at the ends of the nails and then round for neatness. You will also want to make sure that the hair around the anus is neat and clean.
CAUTION
As with any canine, leaving unsupervised small children with Pom's is not advised. Pom's do not dislike children's, but very young children's might not have the necessary coordination and respect to handle such a small animals wisely. Puppies are not for everyone, they require a lot of time, effort, money, patience and a lot of LOVE. They love to go with you every where, please never leave your Pom, or any other pet locked in your car. The temperature can reach dangerous levels in a very few minutes. Do not leave your Pom unattended, these cute fur balls are easily stolen. Because of the Pom's small size, make sure the veterinarian you use is familiar with toy dogs. It is very easy to overdose Pomeranians with needed medications because of their small size.
PLEASE DO YOUR RESEARCH AND MAKE SURE A POM IS THE RIGHT CHOICE FOR YOU.
I hope that you enjoy your new puppy and should you need any information or help, please, do not hesitate to contact me. I always like to hear from owners of Twilightpoms babies. Please keep in touch. Photos and news are always appreciated.

WHAT SHOULD YOU HAVE READY FOR YOUR NEW PUPPY
When you get your pup home he or she may be quite nervous being in a new environment and weaned from their litter mates. In this time stress can affect some pups. For the first few days ensure that the puppy is eating his food. Too much excitement can cause exhaustion in a young Pomeranian. Remember, your puppy is a baby. What do babies spend most of the time doing? Sleeping- So please, ensure that your new baby has adequate sleep.
You should pick up an xpen, soft towel, baby shampoo, water and food dish, nutri-cal, toys and a blanket. Please make sure that you purchase premium quality puppy food (canned and dry food) also have Dannon plain yogurt available and of course a crate.
